SOCKERS
ACCOLADES |
|
 |
|
The Sockers
FC Chicago
Program is
on of the
top youth
programs in
the country,
and possibly
the world.
Our
accolades
generally
speak for
themselves,
and the
players on
the field do
the rest of
the
talking.
This past
month, four
Sockers
players,
Courtney
Raetzman,
Katie
Naughton,
David
Madison and
David Meeves,
received
national and
conference
recognition
for their
work on the
field.
Sockers FC
Technical
Director
David
Richardson
was also
recognized
for his
coaching of
Sockers FC
Chicago's
Academy
teams.
Courtney
Raetzman and
Katie
Naughton
have been
selected to
participate
in the
training
camp with
the National
Team in
California.
The program
is part of
the Olympic
Development
and
according to
coach Greg
Muhr, have
both earned
those spots.
"Katie is
aggressive,
speedy, and
puts
everything
on the field
together
quick. She
is one of
the top
athletes
I've seen,
and has a
great eye
for the game
of soccer,"
Muhr
explained.
Raetzman, he
added, "is
dangerous,
fast, and
handles the
ball well.
As a
left-footed
kicker,
she's in
demand."

MANAGER
APPRECIATION
|
On
Wednesday,
June
25,
the
Sockers
FC
held
a
Manager's
Appreciation
Dinner
to
honor
the
past
season's
Team
Managers
for
the
work
they've
done.
This
dinner
was
the
first
dinner
held
specifically
for
the
Managers,
and
the
Booster
Club
expects
the
event
to
be
held
annually.
"Team
Managers
are
the
life
line
of
the
Club.
They're
the |
 |
|
connection
between
the
coaches
and
the
parents.
Without
them,
it
would
be
impossible
for
coaches
to
connect
with
each
and
every
parent
- so
the
Managers
serve
as
the
sounding
board
for
both
sides,"
Kevin
Lesch,
President
of
the
Booster
Club,
said. |
|
As
the
Club
has
grown
in
the
past
20
years,
the
role
of
Team
Manager
has
become
a
vital
part
of
the
Sockers
organization.
A
lot
of
the
time,
Team
Managers
work
full-time
jobs,
and
still
somehow
manage
to
save
time
for
their
duties
to
the
Club.
They
are
parents,
wives,
husbands,
and
Club |
 |
|
members.
Their
work,
and
the
time
they
put
into
it,
may
often
be
overlooked.
But
they
continue,
year
after
year,
to
uphold
the
Club's
values,
keep
communication
open,
and
inspire
new
ideas
to
push
all
teams
to
success.

EUROPE
CONNECTS
|
July
seemed
to
be a
smorgasbord
of
international
activity
for
the
Sockers
FC
Program!
With
Europeans
visiting
our
home,
our
kids
going
to
Europe,
and
a
tournament
in
Chicago
with
teams
from
all
over
the
world,
the
Sockers
players
gained
a
lot
of
knowledge. |
 |
On July
12th, the
boys from
the U13 &
U14 teams
traveled to
Sweden and
Denmark for
the Gothia
Cup and the
Dana Cup,
respectively.
Nino DaSilva,
who has
never been
to either
country,
served as
head coach
for the
combined
team. "I've
traveled as
a player
before -
traveling as
a coach is a
little
different
experience
that I
really
enjoyed,"
DaSilva
explained.
|
The
two
tournaments
were
huge,
with
over
2,000
teams
in
each.
In
Sweden,
the
team
played
and
won
their
first
three
games
(three
games
were
guaranteed
by
the
tournament).
After
winning
their
division,
they
won
their
fourth
game,
which
shot
them
into
the |
 |
|
quarterfinals.
They
lost
the
quarterfinal
game.
However,
DaSilva
was
elated
that
they
had
successfully
won
their
division
out
of
the
300
teams.
After
Sweden,
the
team
traveled
to
Denmark,
winning
second
in
their
division
with
nearly
the
same
number
of
teams
involved.
That
placing
advanced
them
to
the
next
level,
but
lost
before
the
quarterfinal
round.
