Sockers FC Chicago is proud to announce our acceptance into the boys Under-12 US Soccer Developmental Academy Program beginning Fall of 2016. Sockers FC will be operating two Under-12 Academy Programs (48 Players) within the current club structure. One program will be in operation in the Palatine/Schaumburg location and the second will be a co-op between the Naperville/McHenry locations.
All boys in birth year 2004 that are registered with Sockers for the 2016/17 seasons are eligible for evaluation. The Academy program will be a new competition platform added to our current Under-12 program. All Under-12 players (2004) will continue to follow the current curriculum and train together. The U12 players will be placed into the appropriate competition platform (DA, NISL) based on coaching staff assessments, which is the same process for the current Academy programs for our older age groups. Sockers FC believe our players will have an advantage in development as movement between competition platforms creates a vital component to a player’s progress in skill and understanding of the game.
Sockers FC Developmental Academy Pathway
As a prominent leader in Chicagoland Soccer for over 30 years, and a charter member (2007) of the Development Academy program, Sockers FC has a history of placing players into next-level programs whether national, collegiate or professional teams. Unlike many of the new Under-12 DA clubs in the area, which can only provide one-year of DA programming at the U12 age group, Sockers players will have the opportunity to progress through the full DA program from U12 through U18.
What is the US Soccer Development Academy?
Following a comprehensive review of elite player development in the United States and around the world, U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy in 2007 to provide education, resources and support to impact everyday club environments that will develop world-class players. The Academy Program's philosophy is based on increased training, less total games, and more meaningful games using international rules of competition.
In its continual effort to improve player development, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy program will be expanding to the Under-12 age group starting in the Fall of 2016.
The expansion to U-12 will incorporate the same Academy philosophy as the older age groups, providing this critical younger age with an improved environment to enhance player and coach development. The players will train more often, while also playing fewer - but more meaningful - games every week, which will provide the American player with the opportunity to learn and develop to reach their full potential.
The Academy also connects National team coaches directly with USSDA member clubs to develop and identify players and coaches for future youth national teams. Each Academy club is evaluated by a member of the Men’s Scouting Network at least ten (10) times each year and each Academy club receives two (2) formal reviews that provide feedback in seven (7) key performance categories each year from U.S. Soccer technical staff.
